We also like to go out to Cable Bay Trail in the winter to watch the Sea Lions hang out on the log booms near Harmac Mill. These great lumbering animals winter in our community and then spend the summer in California and Mexico (they have the life don't they!). Nanaimo has lots of indoor activities to keep you
occupied also. Our museum is a great little place! They feature
a new Coal Mining Exhibit, restored steam locomotive, miners cabin
and their own secret little park with great views of the Boat Basin
and the Harbour. Nanaimo is home to some great cultural events and venues. Our brand new Port Theatre offers an extensive selection of plays, live music and traveling acts. We have many other professional and amateur theatrical companies including The Nanaimo Theatre Group and TheatreOne! Looking for music? The Vancouver Island Symphony might have what you're looking for or visit the Entertainment Section of the Nanaimo Bulletin for more ideas. Nanaimo's downtown core is undergoing a major revitalization and has a large selection of arts and culture venues to choose from. Lots of great second-hand bookshops to leisurely flip pages in. Our new downtown library offers free internet service, video library and more. The Old City Quarter, just across the bridge from downtown, has an eclectic mix of shops and restaurants. Nanaimo and The Buccaneer Inn are great
places to spend an extended period of time. We spent
the
winter of 2002 driving over 20,000 kilometers down to Puerto Vallarta
looking for a place that has what Nanaimo has. We didn't find
it! We found places that were warmer but not a spot on the water
that was safe, green and affordable with great healthcare, safe
water, a beautiful Harbourside Walkway and lots of other things to do.
We think you're making the right choice by coming here!
Were across from Newcastle Channel and Departure
Bay in a residential neighbourhood. This seaside location
in central Nanaimo makes us a convenient place to walk from, go
on day trips, shop in one of our many malls or just plain relax.

have lots of activities to keep you occupied while you're here.
Our selection of Parks and Recreation activities is great. Our
new Aquatic and Leisure Centre boasts western Canada's largest
wave pool and a huge 48 person therapeutic pool. Beban Park has
an outstanding array of amenities including an all-weather lawn
bowling green, lighted tennis courts, Pitch and Putt golf course,
our community's second aquatic centre, 2 arenas and lots of big
sports fields. Bowen Park is our version of Stanley Park in Vancouver.
There are great wooded trails, a waterfall, duck pond, tennis courts,
Seniors Centre and lawn bowling.
There
are miles of great forest trails and oceanside beaches and parks.
One of our favourite places to go is Piper's Lagoon. This park
has it all; a great beach, small mountain to climb and a lagoon
to wander around! You can toss stones into the ocean and then watch
some climbers practicing their abseiling!
